The kitchen runs 7 ft each side of the net. No volleys inside it.

Read the court.
- Court 球場
- 20 × 44 ft. Singles and doubles share it.
- Baseline 底線
- Both feet stay behind it when you serve.
- Service court 發球區
- 10 × 15 ft. The serve lands in the diagonal box.
- Kitchen 廚房
- Properly the non-volley zone: 7 ft each side of the net, 14 ft in all. No volleys from inside it.
- Net 球網
- 36 in at the sidelines, 34 in at the centre.
- Two-bounce rule 兩跳規則
- The serve and the return must each bounce once before they are hit.
ONE LESSON 場上一課
The third shot.
- Serve, on the diagonal.
- Return, deep.
- Drop the third shot into the far kitchen and use the time to move up.
